Daniel Jones orchestrates TD drive on first preseason possession with Giants – SNY.tv

With all eyes on Daniel Jones, the Giants’ rookie quarterback shined during his first preseason drive as a member of Big Blue.

Jones’ night began on the Giants’ second offensive possession. After Eli Manning led an uninspiring three-and-out drive, Jones took the field with the rest of the first-team offense, or least the way the first-team offense was comprised on Thursday.

Jones completed his first three passes of the night, picking up a pair of Giants’ first downs and driving the Giants’ inside the Jets’ 25-yard line. Facing a third-and-seven at the 20-yard line, Jones found Bennie Fowler on an out route to move the chains.

The very next play, Jones hit Fowler in the back corner of the end zone on a beautiful throw for his first (unofficial) NFL touchdown.

Jones went 5-5 on his first drive for 67 yards and the TD pass, compiling a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

After a 59-minute weather delay, the Giants turned the ball over to Alex Tanney, ending Jones’ night. His night was brief — just one possession — but it was certainly a preseason debut to remember for the second overall pick.

“It went well. It was a good start for us,” Jones said during an in-game interview after his night had ended. “A couple of things I could’ve gotten cleared up and would have made it a little easier on us, but it went well. I thought we did a good job of moving the ball down the field.

“It was a good feeling just to be in the stadium wearing a uniform and playing the first game. It was good to kind of see what we we’re doing in practice and come out here and put it to work a little bit.”
