Darcica Logistics is testing a 16-tonne Volta Zero fully-electric vehicle for its pallet network deliveries and collections in and around Oxfordshire.
The trial comes as Darcica explores larger electric vehicle options.
Currently, the companyās fleet includes 3.5 tonne vans, 7.5 and 18 tonne HGVs, and 44 tonne artics.
However, the firmās initial move towards electrification with four Maxus eDeliver9 electric vans has proved successful.
Oxford, the only net-zero city in the UK and a significant service area for Darcica, has been area in which these electric vehicles have been primarily used.
The switch to a zero-emissions truck had been delayed due to financial difficulties at Voltaās end.
But, with the company has been bought since the end of last year and the trial is now back on track.
The Volta Zero is the worldās first purpose-built 16-tonne electric truck, and aims to ārevolutionise commercial vehicle operations and deliver a next-generation driving experienceā.
It boasts zero tailpipe emissions, reduced noise levels and is equipped with sensors and cameras to enhance vehicle safety and mobility.
Anthony Tattersall, Darcicaās owner and director said: āWe do about 100 miles a day and go to two hubs, Birmingham and London, so the mileage weāre doing is well within the capabilities of an electric vehicle.
āWe believe it will have a 200km range and hold about 10-12 pallets.
āIt will be interesting to see how the Volta Zero performs during our trial period in terms of capacity and charging times, as well as the overall drive and manoeuvrability experience.ā
In addition to deliveries and collections, Darcica provides fulfilment and storage services.
The company employs 27 full-time staff in Bicester and more than 80 self-employed personnel at its Reading and Swindon sites.
It says it offers āswift and reliable transportā for goods and that it is ādedicatedĀ to minimisingā itsĀ environmental impact.
