Ford recalls 1.5 million F-150 pickups that could spontaneously shift gear while driving – Dallas News

Ford recalled nearly 1.5 million F-150 pickups Wednesday over concerns that the vehicles could unintentionally shift gear while driving,

The recall affects select 2011-2013 F-150s trucks with six-speed automatic transmissions. The company said affected vehicles could temporarily shift into first gear while driving, potentially causing drivers to lose control of the trucks or crash.

Consumers reported five accidents related to the problem, Ford said in a news release.

The issue stems from an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor signal to the power-train control module, according to Ford.

Also Wednesday, Ford issued a separate recall for 2017-2019 Lincoln Continentals, in which some door latches may not engage, meaning the doors could open while driving. The recall affects more than 28,000 cars in North America.

A third Ford recall Wednesday involved 2019 Ford Mustangs, Lincoln Nautiluses and Lincoln Navigators. The recall was related to a safety compliance issue in which the vehicles’ instrument panel cluster assemblies are blank upon starting the vehicles. The recall applies to fewer than 5,000 vehicles in North America, Ford said.
