Juan Mata has recently hinted he wishes to stay on at Manchester United for a long time.
Mata’s Man United stint
Mata has been plying his trade in England for just shy of a decade.
The Spaniard joined Chelsea in the summer of 2011 from Valencia.
Mata went on to garner 135 appearances for the capital giants, scoring 32 and assisting 58 in said ties.
The World Cup winner was then was sold to Manchester United in 2014. The Red Devils are understood to have paid around £37m for Mata’s services.
The versatile midfielder has since notched 249 appearances across all competitions for United
Across these outings, Mata has scored 48, assisted 42, and won a handful of trophies, one of which was the Europa League.
Mata eyeing extended stay?
Mata would turn 32 last month and has just over a year remaining on his current United deal.
Although, the club are said to possess an option to extend the 41-time capped international’s deal by a further year.
But despite his age and expiring contract, Juan Mata is seemingly hoping to spend much longer on the books of Man United.
Speaking in a recent video on United’s official Twitter account, Mata was drawn on the fact his next appearance, whenever that may come, will be his 250th for the club:
“It feels like it has gone very quickly, it feels like time flies. I didn’t know it was going to be my 250th game, but I feel proud.”
The former Chelsea standout then went on to hint he wishes to stay at Man United for a long time, stating he wants to keep going and going:
“When you play your first game you feel like you are in a new beginning, a very exciting moment in your life playing for this club. I don’t want to stop here, I want to keep going and going, and keep adding games in a United shirt.”
