Recently appointed lead governor, Anna Gardner, explained why she finds the role so rewarding.
She underlined its importance to the whole function of the NHS, describing the main responsibilities her role entails.
She said it provides a clear sense of purpose and feels driven and motivated when sh can see the positive impact her role is having.
Ms Gardner said: “If staff are the beating heart of the Trust, Governors are its eyes and ears.
“We must work collaboratively to make sure that Trust services are caring, safe and excellent for patients, relatives and carers.
“So please stand for election. As the saying goes ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it’.”
As Lead Governor, Ms Gardner’s priority for the next year is facilitating increased Trust membership and Governor engagement.
She mentioned the recent reactivation of Council of Governor sub-groups as part of her approach to engage Governors better.
The sub-groups will serve as the main channel for Governors to represent their constituents and hold non-executive directors responsible.
Nominations will open for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust Council of Governors elections on Thursday, February 29.
