Roy Williams' light touch moves Carolina in right direction – The Athletic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — At the first practice following North Carolina’s 21-point loss to Louisville last month, freshman forward Nassir Little believed he knew what was coming. The Tar Heels’ execution was embarrassing. Their energy level was worse. And trailing from start to finish was every bit indicative of how much they got dominated.

Little figured coach Roy Williams would make it the toughest practice of the season. One of those sprint-fests where managers had to be at the ready in case all the running caused a player or two to go face down in one of those Carolina blue trash bags to vomit. To Little’s surprise, that’s not the way Williams handled it.

“The way coach responded to it really woke us up,” Little says. “A lot of people probably expected us to just run 1,000 suicides or whatever. But he was just straight up like, ‘Y’all got to want it. I could run y’all as much as I want, but at the end of the day, if y’all don’t want it then…
