The Manchester United Foundation have, on Tuesday, made another generous donation during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

COVID-19 & Football

The COVID-19 pandemic has consumed the world over the last six weeks or so.

As of writing, over 3.6m people around the world are said to have contracted the virus.

Unfortunately, as of Tuesday the 5th of May, over 250,000 of said people are sadly thought to have passed away.

One of the many areas to have been hit hard by the coronavirus has been football.

At the moment, none of Europe’s top-five leagues are currently in action with major international tournaments also being forced to reschedule.

And whilst the rising death toll can make for quite destressing reading on a daily basis, there have been some positives to report.

Footballers may have previously come under scrutiny from the UK’s health secretary, but both players and clubs have been doing their part in the fight against COVID-19.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent have financed intensive care wings in Portugal.

Chelsea have helped out their local community in various ways, including joining with UK charity Refuge to raise awareness and valuable funds to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse during the pandemic.

Arsenal have also donated tonnes of food supplies throughout the Islington area.

And as mentioned above, the latest club to do their part during the ongoing crisis is Manchester United.

The Red Devils have previously donated £50,000 to help local food banks in March whilst also pledging to deliver 60,000 meals to NHS staff in April.

Now, as per the Evening Standard, the Manchester United Foundation are donating £300,000 to schools and colleges in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The foundation has also confirmed it will guarantee the funds go to vulnerable families in the community with the foundation’s CEO having this to say on the donation:

“We really value the relationship we have with our schools, and in the spirit of true partnerships, we are delighted to be able to offer support to those families who are most in need right now. Our coaches usually work with these children day-in-day-out and this way we are able to still make a difference and give them a sense of hope at this difficult time.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
